The crash comes from the brittle state machine in libdvdnav.
However, you should note that VLC cannot play encrypted DVD discs
without libdvdcss which is not installed (and not part of Ubuntu).

On other windows comp with 4:3 17 screen 1280x1024 this DVD played norm
in VLC, in windows media player, in klmcodec media player.
On my linux comp 16:9 monitor 24 1920x1080 and VLC error on choose dvd and
play.
Dragon player played ok.
