Hello,
As requested, I reinstalled Alpha3 and the issue as described originally
does appear again, the external screen shows blocks of black and white
with dots of various colors.
I then installed with the latest image as of today (20110906) and things
work well as described in comment #2.

Hi,
I just retested this with the Oneiric image from 20110823. Tests were
done with nVidia Corporation GT218 [NVS 2100M] (rev a2) graphics on a
Toshiba Tecra S11.
Behavior is now improved and I can't reproduce the original problem. External
screen works fine with no compiz crashes, I
see a bit
