changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed
I can't confirm because in Unity 3D I don't have any rotiation
options... the only available one is 'Normal'.
That's one way to fix a problem I guess, remove the feature completely

ok, thanks, it's either a compiz,unity or an xorg issue then, could you
try under unity-2d or gnome-shell if that's an issue as well?

Didn't work, same result. I used:
57 xrandr -o inverted
58 xrandr -o left
59 xrandr -o normal
