Still not fixed after a year, affects 12.04 and 12.10 at least. Please increase
the importance of this bug - it's easy to reproduce if you have more than one
monitor and highly annoying.

Could you please check the process ID of compiz before and after locking the
screen? You can just run:
pidof compiz
to find it.
If the process ID has changed then compiz is crashing and we can't
ensure windows stay in their original positions.

Well its not just during/at screen lock. The desktops just switched
back, and windows are mostly where they are supposed to be after the
earlier switch. I verified not just with the key binding (I have each
desktop bound to a specific key but also the work place switch in the
launcher).
