Alvaro Leal (Effenberg0x0), this bug was reported a while ago and there
hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is
still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily

Hi Joseph, I just did this morning when I was notified of the release of
3.1 RC9. There's no change to this particular issue.
dmesg still shows two different informations for the same CPU: The real
speed of the CPU first and then the wrong pstate 0 on powernow-k8,
resulting in lower performance
Additional information: I have also tested with the latest nightly
kernel. Same results. At this point, we do need a kernel patch for this
CPU.
I suggest Ubuntu contact the submitters of latest patch (Borislav Petkov
and Mark Langsdorf, from AMD) to discuss a possible change in patch.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream
Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to
the bug.
If you
Ok, I'd be happy to report it but:
- Bugzilla is for 2.6 bugs only.
There is now a bugzilla setup at bugzilla.kernel.org. Currently this is
for reporting kernel version 2.6 bugs only
- And http://kernel.org/pub/linux/docs/lkml/reporting-bugs.html is a 404
error.
So I don't have
Yes that wiki page appears to need some updating. It also appears that
bugzilla.kernel.org is still unavailable. One alternative would be to
report this directly to the subsystem maintainer or to the Linux Kernel

I have subscribed and verified that powernow-k8 / cpufreq are under
discussion for this and other related issues. I reported there and
emailed AMD kernel developer. Will post back here as soon as there's
feedback, if any.
Thanks,

This issue was not fixed so far. My CPU is a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Black Edition. Dmesg shows two inconsistent information:
# dmesg | grep -i MHz processor

# dmesg | grep -i powernow-k8
[2.301614] powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.
However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is
ALready tested with kernel-request-3.0.0-12.20. The issue persists.
Thanks.
