Hmm... I think i've fixed (at least for now).
I un-installed linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.38 (2.6.38-.201108271604),
rebooted, the same problem was there
I then re-installed linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.38
(2.6.38-.201108271604). and rebooted again
At this time it was weird I think i left
Yup, I've rebooted with both combinations, and the issue is
reproducible.
If you boot with headset plugged in, the speakers don't un-mute when you
unplug the headset.
If you boot without headset plugged in, it all works fine
