I need to do some follow up here. With the Lubuntu Beta 1 alternate
image I get a broken software sources UI. I've so far cross tested the
Ubuntu alt iso and it's OK, but I need to try the latest Lubuntu daily
build to try and reproduce this.
Please see the attached images. I'm under intense time

BTW I parsed the copy of that log after posting, and judging by the time
stamps, it appears to be complete. I was surprised that I couldn't
attach the log itself from a parallel install, I'll have to get schooled
on that some time in the future ;^)

OK, what I've done; I completed the install, no boot afterwards as
expected, gparted shows installed size of 836.45MB.
I have not yet booted into recovery mode to install lubuntu-desktop,
instead I booted into a parallel install of Ubuntu Natty, then mounted
that new install (labeled Alt Lubuntu)
I had to format that to do some other testing, I gritted my teeth when I
did it, but that's not a problem.
I'll spin the disc up again right now and do a retest. It should only
take about 30 to 40 minutes.
I badly need to invest in a couple more cheap refurbished drives ASAP

Anyway I once again got the "Installation step failed" and explanation

official iso-testing image.
The installation fails and says so with the warning that "Installation
step failed" and goes on to explain that the step that failed is "Select
and install software".
After trying again, and failing again
I'm puzzled by the iso-testing tag. How can we be testing an official QA
image when there is none here:

Confirmed on both i386 and amd64, lubuntu-desktop is not installed
during the process.
I saw that some packages are marked as not installable (see
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily/current/report.html), maybe it's
related to this issue ?

I think the apt history log pretty much tells the story.
Probably unrelated but something that has me a little bit stumped is
that apport seems not to recognize (or accept) my password. When
attempting to file this report I finally had to just click on cancel but
to my surprise the report complete
