Public bug reported:

The dash and the user menu show garbled text (incorrect encoding).
Attached screenshot shows an Edubuntu Oneiric live session in German
where e.g. the applications filter in the dash shows "Büro" and
"Zubehör" garbled and the user menu literally shows "Invalid UTF-8".

This is Edubuntu i386 from 2011-08-28
