Hi timmy,
"pci=use_crs" shouldn't make any difference on your system, because it
was already automatically enabled even without "pci=use_crs".
If you still have an issue with sound or xgifb, please attach a complete
dmesg log.

ah, so I need to blacklist xgifb. somehow that experimental driver was
getting loaded, crashing, and keeping the sound driver from working.

wow, managed to find this random thing which FIXES IT!
edit /etc/default/grub and change the line to include "pci=use_crs":
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash pci=use_crs"
run 'sudo update-grub' and reboot.
fixed it for me.
