It isn't what we've come to expect of an online store experience.
Previous versions of USC didn't have it, the Android Market doesn't have
it (it has categories on category screens, but not application screens),
the Mac App Store doesn't have it.
How it would detract from the experience is

possible to navigate from Accessories to System in one click. It has
always required two clicks, and it still does.
