After selecting "Mark All Upgrades", while synaptic is going through the
update of the packages... then the app crashed. This has happened twice
so far, however everything else is ok.
Re-opening Synaptic shows that all the updates were infact done by dpkg.

synaptic is set to auto-start for some reason?

The problem appears approximately *every other time*. I do not know how to
reproduce it insofar as it appears with the opening of the session under
Gnome.
