I think the warning "Open failed" in the last log is not indicative of
any problem, but just how the driver looks for cards. I therefore close
the bug, since the original problem seemingly was fixed in Feisty final.
Please reopen the bug if needed.

As I said, I use Feisty. The bug still seems to be there somehow, but
since Xorg 7.2 is included, you don't need to restart X anymore because
Xorg itself seems to give the module a second try. Log shows this output
now:
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
