This no longer seems to be an issue. My PC now boots within 30 seconds
or so. I realise it wasn't just for my benefit, but thanks for fixing

The change in the file /etc/init/failsafe.conf line pre-start exec sleep 120
on the pre-start exec sleep 12 reduced boot time as in the attached file
dmesg.
