hi, sorry for the delay. it seems it was a hardware problem afterall. I
didn't have the problem with the 5 new installations, so i tried Windows
98 on the machine and it did the same thing.

i doubt it. all the motherboards are the same and came in the same batch. i
didn't change any settings in the bios. maybe its just on of those freak things.
I'm loading another 5 machines today.
so I'll post the results from those 5.

strangely, i did 5 installations yesterday, all identical hardware, only
one machine had this problem though.
