building without any debian/ubuntu patches has the same result. building
icedtea with --enable-jamvm and copying the resulting libjvm.so to an
existing installation has the same result. so this is not related to the
ubuntu package, but seen upstream as well.

I belive this bug is introduced by the Ubuntu/debian specific multiarch patches.
I have not been able to reproduce this bug when compiling JamVM + OpenJDK using
IcedTea 7 directly.

you can use the workaround in precise
workaround:
cd /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/arm/
sudo ln -s jamvm/libjvm.so .
or install the proposed package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-7/7~u3-2.1.1~pre1-1ubuntu3
that uses the ARM asm interpreter by default.
