I just tried it again.
Fresh boot into -8, suspend, and resume works.
Fresh boot into -12, suspend, then crash with blinking caps lock light. Boot
back into -8, suspend, and resume works.

I did some more testing.
Suspending works with 2.6.38-8 but not with 2.6.38-11 or 2.6.38-12.
