Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) reached end-of-life on October 28, 2012.

Xorg.0.log output looks the same (see below). Note that this is
captured just after a reboot. Also, just to confirm that the rebuilt
module is in place:

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/mga_drv.so
$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Then I am back at an underlying PCI issue. Also the PCI probing in the X

I wonder if it is a PCI library bug rather than the graphics driver. Can you
also give the output from the working 10.04.3 release? Use this to limit the

I just discovered that Debian and Ubuntu carry a patch which changes related
code, and I wonder if this patch is at fault. It looks like it was introduced
after 10.04. Can you please try to rebuild the package without this patch?

I've attached an archive of all of the logs that I reference in this
post. It includes the dmesg and Xorg log output for the 11.04 install.
See dmesg-11.04 and Xorg-11.04.0.log.
I have not successfully reproduced the working 10.10 system. I booted
from the 10.10 live CD and got the expected
Please attach Xorg.0.log both from 10.10 (working) and 11.04 (failing).
Would be great if you can try 11.10 as well. Run apport-collect 854206
to have other relevant information attached. Also attach dmesg output
from after failure.
