Doesn't look like the maintainer is responding, so I'll upload now.
Thanks for your contribution (I just added the LP bug number to the
changelog to make it close this bug and changed the release to jaunty).

As Michael Cerden said, this can be fixed by just changing the
priorities in the config script. Attached is a debdiff that should fix
the problem.
I'm trying to learn deb packaging, hopefully this works ;)

Still here on Intreprid: only the user field is set. Proxy name,
password and port are ignored.

It looks as though it's related to the debconf priority given to the
package's setup questions. In the package, this appears to be set too
high, so that unless someone already has their system debconf priority
set to a very granular level, the
