This happens on every gnome/Xfce startup. I get three messages in a row:
1) HAL does not support power management!
2) Either HAL or DBUS is not working!
3) failed to initialize HAL!
These messages began appearing as I switched from Edgy (via a clean
install from Herd 5 Desktop i386 CD).
Georges, could you try that :
logout/login and report if it works or not after that step (if you get the
error or not)
