Quick comment from a Mandriva user... you may want to just turn off alsa
routing via pulseaudio - this did the trick for me.
Now Amarok pauses fast (though I think not as fast as xmms used to).
I got the idea from reading this bugreport, so thanks for the
discussion, it put me on the right track.
Sad. Who can we terrorize to get a decent support here? There's no
decent alternative to Amarok around ..

The Amarok Team doesn't support playback using pulseaudio, also xine
disfavors the use of the current pulseaudio module (it will probably be
rewritten for the next major version anyway).
I'm marking the bug as invalid since we can't do anything and xine nor
Amarok are willing to do anything .

Same problems here using hardy, pulseaudio, amarok. One extra problem
though: when using the pulseaudio plugin, Amarok will crash randomly.
