You are right, I thought the issue was about the back and forward
buttons on Dolphin.
I indeed can confirm that the back and forward buttons of my mouse (I
never use them so I did not think of those) are not working (and that
they are working in other applications)

I cannot reproduce this problem, the back and forward buttons of Dolphin
are working properly. I am using Oneiric/KDE 4.7.4
