I just recently started seeing this symptom (on every login) on my 12.04
desktop. No clue if it's the same root cause, but I do get a segfault if
I run unity from a terminal (after opening it by right clicking on the
empty desktop and choosing Open in Terminal). Let me know if there is
any

I experienced this bug (with almost identical terminal output when I try
to run unity in terminal) recently, though I don't know if under the
same circumstances. I can trigger it 100% of the time in both my Asus
G53SW notebook and Acer AspireOne netbook by opening CompizConfig
