The fix was only temporary. It only lasted about half a day. I tried
logging out and in. The hanging was back. Like menus that wont close
properly on the top panel or the launcher wont scroll or hide properly..

I think this might be a solution. Since logging into another user
account with unity 3d, there was no hanging, I thought there must be old
settings, config files in the main account causing instability. I
deleted a lot of these and logged back into unity. Since then there has
been no hanging. I had
One way to temporarily stop unity 3d hanging is a complete restart but it
happens so often this can be tiring. It happens when logging out of one session
into another. As I just did for the xsession-errors file; deleted my old
xsession file so a new one would be created when logging back into un
I have the same with Unity 4.24.0, Ubuntu 11.10. As with the reporter
unity does not hang in 2d. I will upload my .xsession file if that will
be useful.
