Or is it possible to backup program files and documents, delete ubuntu
11.04, install 11.10 and bring the backup files back?

as one of the first big files didn't appear in the Attachment field, I decided
to create an archive. There was a message that an error occured, but perhaps
these files a sufficient for your help. Nevertheless I'll go on trying with the
other files...
