Thank you forwarding it upstream, that's the right place for that. Note
that rhythmbox probably doesn't start gnome-screensaver, it might use
gnome-settings-daemon which is running other programs then

from that environment, that's not a bug

Sebastien, I urge you to reopen this bug. You cannot describe this as
desirable behaviour.
Why should using any GNOME application start-up the whole of GNOME?
Are you really saying that a music player needs to launch a screensaver?

I am so convinced that a music player does NOT need a screensaver to
function I have filed an upstream bug for this. Until this is fixed
Rhythmbox is unusable outside of GNOME.
