I've been running xfce4-panel with the --sync flag for over a week, and
it still hasn't crashed once. How can I assist in further debugging of
the issue?

Same here. I can easily reproduce the bug when I'm not debugging, but
when running with "--sync", I can't.

I am trying, but it seems to be more stable when running with --sync (as
per the debugging instructions from the error message in the bug
description). Might be a coincidence, so I will keep trying for the next
few days.

I have a similar problem. I do not use empathy chat window. Let me
also note that xfce4-panel can crash even when the sorting order option
is set to "Timestamp", if I drag a taskbar button around.
