I don't have that problem with LXTerminal 0.1.11. However, I have a
different issue.
Pressing Shift-Ctrl-T does open a new tab (just one). But in the new
tab, there is always a "^T" symbol shown before the command prompt is
printed. It looks like LXTerminal is reading the Shift-Ctrl-T as input,

The "Shift-Ctrl-T opens multiple tabs" problem could be related to the
keyboard key repeat setting. I tried pressing and holding Shift-Ctrl-T,
and LXTerminal opened multiple tabs. LXTerminal should only open a
single tab when Shift-Ctrl-T is pressed, i.e. it should ignore repeated
keys if T remains
