Public bug reported: The Broadcom 4311/12 wireless chips require firmware when using the b43 driver. This firmware is available from Broadcom (which is put into /lib/firmware/b43) or as open source (which is put into /lib/firmware/b43-open). Either firmware works, but when the proprietary Broadcom firmware is not present in .../b43, shutdown takes an extra minute, after the log file line "could not find .../b43/ucode5.fw". After a minute, shutdown completes normally. Adding in the Broadcom firmware lets shutdown proceed without the minute delay. This behavior is new with the 11.10 release.
