I did that, but update-initramfs -u gave an error, complaining about
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pango/1.6.0/modules/pango-basic-fc.so.
So I did dpkg -S on that file and libpango1.0-0 contains that file. I
reinstalled libpango1.0-0, did update-initramfs -u and restarted: the
problem is solved. Thanks

Yes, you should.
sudo rm -rf
$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/modules/pango-basic-fc.so
dpkg-query: no path found matching pattern
/usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/modules/pango-basic-fc.so
So, should I remove the files manually from my system?

Hi Ernst,
usr/lib/pango
usr/lib/pango/1.6.0
usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/modules
usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/modules/pango-basic-fc.so
usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/module-files.d
usr/lib/pango/1.6.0/module-files.d/libpango1.0-0.modules
These files shouldn't be here, and suggest that something is wrong with
your install. P
Thanks for your help. 'sudo update-initramfs -u' does not solve my problem,
so I attached the file you requested.

Ok. When cryptsetup is installed, plymouth is always included in the
initramfs; it looks like something related to font rendering is missing
from your initramfs.
Please first test if running 'sudo update-initramfs -u' is enough to
clear the problem for you.
If it isn't, please run 'zcat /boot/in
Yes, I have:
$ apt-cache policy cryptsetup
cryptsetup:
Installed: 2:1.1.3-4ubuntu2
Candidate: 2:1.1.3-4ubuntu2
Version table:
*** 2:1.1.3-4ubuntu2 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Although I don't think I use it
Do you have the cryptsetup package installed?
