Using Nvidia Geforce 7600 with nvidia-glx drivers and desktop effects

When I switch users the other user is able to login and Gnome works
properly.
When that user logs out the screen goes black with just a cursor and the
system hangs.
There is no way to recover from this other than a hard reset.
