512 MB of RAM may not be enough to have a great experience with Ubuntu
so for a system with that much RAM you might consider using Xubuntu
which is less resource intensive. I'm glad to hear that your children
love Edubuntu!

Thanks Brian, I had no time to update this report. You hit the
problem... I had this doubt and tried in the nieght a new installation
using the dvd writer (5 years old) instead of dvd rom (8 years old!)...
at the morning I found that installation was succefully done!
