Public bug reported:
I tried using the fast user switching in Oneiric. In the past this
feature has never really worked safely resulting in losing lots of work
when trying to switch back and have the session crash. I tried this
again today. Switching to the new users is quick, but switching back
took over 2 minutes of black screen. Making me think the session had
crashed. I waited as I could not afford to loose the work. Eventually I
was back to my original session. Now my pc was feeling sluggish so i
tried to reboot. reboot logged me out of my original session back to
lightdm selecting the new user i created. I logged in as him and this
crashed my PC with mostly a black screen and a small patch, icon size,
of corrupted screen, random colours. Had to switch to console and do
sudo reboot.
Like I said this is pretty much the same experience I have had with fast
user switching since it's inception. Would be great if this does not
cause you to loose work regularly and just work as it should
