hybrid graphics switching is not supported in ubuntu yet. You need to work with these guys: https://launchpad.net/~hybrid-graphics-linux Probably your hdmi output isn't wired to the intel card, but to the nvidia card. So other than blacklisting the i915 driver there isn't much that can be
