i like ubuntu/linix but know nothing about programming. no matter what i
try i can't get a dvd to play with totem, mplayer, or gxine. they either
stop or say i need a plug in. i've tried installing everything. can
someone give me some painless answers/solutions?

This may be rather complex, but I think on Feisty there is some problem
with priorities for the engine settings.
With w32codecs installed, and libxine-extracodecs installed, gxine
insists on trying to use ffmpeg for Real media. When the ffmpeg audio
priority is reduced to -1 and win32a set to 2 ,
test rm: mplayer works well,totem-xine no sound,gxine can't play.

I test for rmvb and mp3 files,mp3 works ok for all,but play rmvb with no
sound for all.
But when yesterday my system upgrade,some of rmvb can play with sound,but
some still can't,those files i have already test in Xubuntu 6.06,works well.

better. Do you mean that you can no sound when you watch videos? If so
what happens when you try to listen to an audio file? Thanks in
