I'm short on time so I've not been able to do the testing you would like.
With my current system (see below) I don't see the problem any more.
Ubuntu from lxubuntu download, /etc/issue contains "Ubuntu 12.04 LTS \n \l"
and uname -a says

I write that because I've now installed swsusp which appears to override
the pm-hibernate that exhibits the behaviour mentioned. It's too early
to tell if swsusp makes a difference, I'll report on that soon. Only
after that is it a good idea to start testing w
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
