This installation isn't using Netbeans as packaged in Ubuntu, so the
problem presumably lies in the JVM being used to launch it.

Update: If you uninstall openjdk and install sun java then you can

can't install netbeans.sh on ubuntu 11.10

I am having the same issue, specifically when installing Netbeans 7.1,
adding the PPA does allow me to install Netbeans 7.0.1 but I would love
to have 7.1 for the Git integration. I have attached the installation
log.
