Packet writing should work as default in most systems - put "DEVICES=/dev/cdrw"
in /etc/default/udftools

So I added:
DEVICES=/dev/cdrw
DEVICES=/dev/hda
DEVICES=/dev/hdb
I checked in /etc/fstab if these where the correct values first.
It seems all trouble is gone! Try it yourself!

I'm amazed that it could be so simple! There are some rough edges though:
after performing this trick, it seems libdvdcss2 doesn't work any more. So it
is almost impossible to watch commercial dvd's.

Could you make a little frontend for gnome to make a DVDRW UDF please, and
activate it by default.
It is very hard to make it working, for the moment i can't make my dvd udf :(
