Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 11.10 all the games I run with wine have no sound.
Bioshock runs just fine, TES-Oblivion is incredibly slow.  Winecfg's
sound test makes a crack, and the button locks up.

This bug is also reported for wine 1.2, here:

I'll download the source from wine, see wether that version works and
report back.
