beeps. Specifically, for volume keys it's an option in the

Thanks Draimus. Can you specifically comment which version of the
kernel you are using though? 'cat /proc/version_signature'. It's hard
to know which kernel you updated to on the 27th.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

My R30 is currently running 8.10. As of Wednesday (Aug 27th) there has
been no improvement in the volume keys. They do not respond.

I have a T41, running Feisty. I have been able to change volume beeps,
hibernate beeps, and battery-alarm beeps through the pre-startup menu. When
booting up, press the Access IBM button on the keyboard. You'll get to a
menu; select Settings (I think it's called). Then select Config, then

The keys cause the same beep when used at the GRUB boot menu, as well as
single-user mode, and in Windows.
There is a Windows ThinkPad-specific control panel option to turn off
beep on the volume buttons. When used, it seems to turn it off for Linux
I'm hesitant to think that it's the kernel emitting the beep. Boot to
single user (Rescue Mode in grub menu) and try these keys from just the
command line. If you still get a beep, then mark this bug

Otherwise start checking the apps in the desktop
Just tried this on a T41, aswell, same annoying beep :-)
