After some kernel updates, I am running now 3.0.0-16-generic #29-Ubuntu
SMP Tue Feb 14 12:48:51 UTC 2012 this problem has never occured since
then. Thus the report may get closed.

Steve, the problem is, it only occurs sometimes after a startup -
hibernate - resume - [ hibernate - resume]* - shutdown cycle, but has
never occurred after a startup - shutdown to me.
I couldn't identify a pattern which would reliably trigger the behavior
of not shutting down after hibernation.
How are you shutting down from KDE when this bug occurs? Is it
definitely reproducible after hibernate/resume, and definitely not
reproducible without hibernating?
Plymouth is just the splash screen on shutdown; it should not prevent
