The same thing happened to me right now. Any idea how to fix it?
Reinstalling AppArmor, executing dpkg --configure -a, purge cups and
install it again, nothing works. :/

Hi, seems that I had a similar problem with AppArmor. Errors related with this
app were thrown by trying to start cups (see log file).
I fixed the problem by removing AppArmor.
sudo apt-get remove AppArmor
Hope it helps.

I don't know why this happened, but it really is missing in the backup tar.
Must have been excluded by mistake..

Seems you removed /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/proc ?
Please try
apt-get download apparmor
sudo dpkg -i --force-confmiss apparmor_*.deb
to repair it.

There was no error.log
Running the cupsd -f didn't produce any errors, it was running just fine, empty
error.log

error message, can you please run
sudo cupsd -f
Does this immediately crash or keep running? If it crashes, please
copy&paste the output. In the latter case, please press Control-C to

To test, run the commands
lpstat -r
lpstat -v
in a terminal window.
If not, can you start CUPS?
To start CUPS, run
sudo start cups
in a terminal window.
