actually need the firmware from the firmware-b43-installer package.
This was reported about Debian in bug 652821 and the fix exists in
Ubuntu version 12.04.

Ok, I have some more specifics.
After installing firmware-b43legacy-installer dmeg shows

Martin, I reinstalled b43-fwcutter from oneiric-proposed.
Then I installed firmware-b43legacy-installer. It installed fine and I saw it
download and unpack some additional files.
However wifi still doesn't work.
taskbar's network status monitor applet still shows "device not
