After unpacking the .deb and changing:

rmdir `echo /usr/lib/libreoffice | sed -e
s,usr/,/var,g`/basis3.4/program/
to:
if [ "$1" = "upgrade" -o "
libreoffice-core fails to upgrade unless you run your package manager
from / because its preinst uses relative pathnames to delete an old
directory.
