Clean install 12.04 64
sudo apt-get dist-update went fine
rebooted and:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Compiz crashed during the updation leaving just the undressed Terminal
window still processing the updates. Completed fine - rebooted and all
seems well.

In my case it was after the upgrade from 11.10 on reboot in a Wubi install.
The system has 2GiB RAM and 20GiB virtual drive. The rest of the install seems
OK.
