Public bug reported: I have a SDHC card that was formatted by my Nikon camera (as recommended by the manufacturer).
I have been unable to mount the card in Ubuntu 11.10. When I plug it into my Lenovo x220 I get a lot of: Jan 15 09:54:40 x220 kernel: [122539.661199] mmcblk0: error -110 sending read/write command, response 0x0, card status 0x400b00 Researching the problem I found this AskUbuntu question: http://askubuntu.com/questions/78881/dell-inspiron-9400-sd-card-reader-not-working It referenced a forum post that recommended adding the sm_ftl linux module (SmartMedia/xD translation layer). I added the sm_ftl module and it now is able to be mounted.
