To manage notifications about
"dash" doesn't operate in unity 2d. Can't get a shell to fix. In 3d, the
panel and dock disappear requiring an alt + printscreen + k.

if you look in /var/crash, is there a file there whose name includes
unity-2d-places?
If so, you might be able to attach debugging information to this bug
with the command:
apport-collect -p unity-2d-places 924179
