Installing the recommended driver for my Nvidia graphics card seems to
have fixed this.

This started happening after I upgraded* from 8.10 (Intrepid) to 9.04
(Jaunty), last week.
Following reboot, the first login attempt to my usual user account
fails, bringing me back to the login screen. The next login attempt to
results in the dialog saying "Your last session lasted 10 seconds..."
i'm getting this same problem, only that i know i'm editing some files
due to a java install. i need to set my JAVA_HOME variable, and to do
so, i've been trying without any luck to edit this files

could you installed libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg gnome-session-
dbgsym (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash), use the failsafe
terminal option, run valgrind and attach the log to the bug? It might
show an error even if you don't get the crash

Well if I run gnome failsafe, I get the error dialog , if I run
failsafe terminal and run valgrind gnome-session, gnome starts fine
and I don't get any error dialog. Should I run it with gnome-session
already started in failsafe gnome, or in the failsafe terminal?

i'm not too sure on how to go about running it in a way to get a log,
since my session starts fine, only if i hit the ok, does it actually
crash
