I still experience this bug with 3.3.5-0ubuntu3 and use the same workaround
emelce just mentioned.
Moreover, when I tried to uncheck that option to ensure that this bug still
exists with the latest updates, g-s-d crashed - see bug 935987 for that.

one way to get rid of the bug for a while:
settings - keyboard - layoutsettings - layout - options - use keyboard LED to
show alternative layout: set to NumLock
