It seems that 256Meg is our suggested minimum for livecd boot/install.

Having upped the assigned memory to 256MB, feisty seems to have
installed fine from the desktop CD. I've not tried the alternate CD, but
I imagine it'd require less memory.
So, it turns out that this was simply a memory issue. It seems 256MB
should be a hard minimum for installing from the Desktop
So just the VB instance hung, not the machine it's running on? Did
increasing the mem for the VB instance help? Does using the alternate CD
help?
Could it just be a bug in VirtualBox?

It might well be a memory problem; either way, surely the kernel should
just refuse to allocate memory rather than hanging like this. You might
find that if you try to repeat this problem, but switch to a virtual
console shortly before the hang, that you can get an oops log out of the
kernel, if th
