[Bug 93968] Re: ubuntu-desktop is dependant on too many things

Sorry, but this is just the way it is supposed to be. This way, I you are on Kubuntu and would like to try GNOME, you just install ubuntu-desktop. For KDE on Ubuntu, it is kubuntu desktop. And upgrades are easier, since ifa new package enters default installation, it is installed this way

I am coming across the same problem in many cases. Tried to uninstall gaim, but nautilus-sendto depends on gaim, and ubuntu-desktop depends on nautilus-sendto. Surely these should be recommends rather than dependencies. -- ubuntu-desktop is dependant on too many things

How do you safely remove packages without it removing things such as Ubuntu-desktop then? I have been trying to clean up my filesystem as much as possible due to the fact that I'm forced to work with a very small partition and I keep finding it refusing to let me remove packages like Firefox

I believe the whole purpose of the metapackage is to bind together the default installation of Ubuntu. If you don't want everything that is installed by default, you can remove the package. It doesn't break anything. It's a good idea to have the package installed when doing a distribution

Yeah, you're right. synaptic makes it sound like the package is required. -- ubuntu-desktop is dependant on too many things https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/93968 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs
